How To Use Nolvadex, Dosage, Side Effects

Nolvadex is the trade name for the drug tamoxifen citrate; Nolvadex is somewhat different from other products since it is not an anabolic/androgenic steroid. For male and female bodybuilders, however, it is a very useful and recommended compound, which is confirmed by its widespread use and mostly positive results. The normal application of Nolvadex is in the treatment of certain forms of breast cancer in female patients.

It is a non-steroidal agent that demonstrates potent anti-oestrogenic properties. The drug is technically an oestrogen agonist/antagonist, which competitively binds to oestrogen receptors in various target tissues. With the tamoxifen molecule bound to this receptor, oestrogen is blocked from exerting any action, and an anti-oestrogen ic effect is achieved.

Since many forms of breast cancer are responsive to oestrogen, the ability of tamoxifen citrate to block its action in such cells has proven to be a very effective treatment. It is also utilized successfully as a preventative measure, taken by people with an extremely high familial tendency for breast cancer. While Nolvadex is effective against oestrogen, it is not our strongest available remedy.

We now have the drugs Arimidex, Femara, and Aromasin available to us, which notably prevents oestrogen from being manufactured in the first place. Altering the effect of oestrogen in the female body can cause a level of discomfort, so anti-oestrogen s are most bearable when used after the point of menopause.

Since Nolvadex is milder in comparison, it is more widely applicable and usually the first treatment option.

How to use Nolvadex: The antioestrogen Nolvadex works against this by blocking the oestrogen receptors of the effected body tissue, thereby inhibiting a bonding of oestrogen s and receptor. It is, however, important to understand that Nolvadex does not prevent the aromatisation but only acts as an oestrogen antagonist.

This means that Nolvadex does not prevent testosterone and its synthetic derivatives (steroids) from converting into oestrogen s but only fights with them in a sort of 'competition' for the oestrogen receptors. Nolvadex is also useful during a diet since it helps in the burning of fat. Although Nolvadex has no direct fat burning effect its antioestrogenic effect contributes to keeping the oestrogen level as low as possible.

Nolvadex should especially be taken together with the strong androgenic steroids Dianabol and Anadrol, and the various testosterone compounds.

Several bodybuilders like to use Nolvadex at the end of a steroid cycle since it increases the body's own testosterone production which will be discussed in more detail in the following to counteract the side effects caused by the oestrogen s. These can occur after the discontinuance of steroids when the androgen level in relationship to the oestrogen concentration is too low and oestrogen becomes the dominant hormone.

A very rare but all the more serious problem of Nolvadex is that in some cases it does not lower the oestrogen level but can increase it. Another disadvantage is that it can weaken the anabolic effect of some steroids. The reason is that Nolvadex, as we know, reduces the oestrogen level.

Nolvadex Dosage: The side effects of Nolvadex are usually low in dosages of up to 30 mg/day in rare cases nausea, vomiting, hot flashes, numbness, and blurred vision can occur. In women irregular menstrual cycles can occur which manifest themselves in weaker menstrual bleeding or even complete missing of a period.

Women should also be careful not to get pregnant while taking Nolvadex. The normal daily dosage taken by athletes corresponds more or less to the dosage indications of the manufacturer and is 10-30 mg/day To prevent oestrogen ic side effects normally 10 mg/day are sufficient, a dosage which also keeps low the risk of reducing the effect of simultaneously taken steroids.

Athletes who have tendencies toward gynecomastia, strong water retention, and increased fat deposits with steroids such as Dianabol, Testosterone, Anadrol, and Deca-Durabolin usually take 20-30 mg/day. The combined application of Nolvadex 20-30 mg/day and Proviron 25-50 mg/day in these cases leads to excellent results.

It has been reported by many however that Nolvadex seems to slightly reduce to gains made during a steroid cycle. It appears that many androgenic/anabolic steroids will exhibit their most powerful anabolic effect when accompanied by a sufficient level of oestrogen.

This may be one reason why gains made with a strong androgen like testosterone are usually much more pronounced than when using an anabolic that aromatises to a lower degree. It therefore seems like good advice to be aware of how much Nolvadex is actually needed before committing to it during a cycle. Many people in fact find it unnecessary, even when utilizing problematic compounds such as testosterone or Dianabol.

Others however find they are troubled by water retention and gynecomastia, even with milder anabolics like Deca-Durabolin and Equipoise. The oestrogen ic response to steroid use is very individual, and may be influenced by factors such as age and body fat percentage (adipose tissue is a primary site of aromatisation).

Nolvadex is certainly the most popular anti-oestrogen used by athletes today, no doubt because it is simply an effective product. It is also widely manufactured, and easy to obtain.

Since there never seems to be a lack of supply, there is little incentive to manufacture a counterfeit product. All of the various generics forms of this drug are no doubt trustworthy. Women should remember to be very cautious when considering the use of Nolvadex, as they are usually very sensitive to changes in the activity of oestrogen .

Men looking for a stronger anti-oestrogen ic effect may want to consider using Arimidex, Femara, or Aromasin three powerful new anti-aromatase compounds. They are much more effective for oestrogen control.
