New Online Store Designed2Enable
People living with disabilities should be content to have functional products to use, whatever they look like? Not according to new online store designed2enable.co.uk
designed2enable is a source of beautiful, well-designed assistive products, thoughtfully created to enhance life in more ways than one.
The product range includes: designer walking canes, ergonomic gardening tools, contemporary bathroom grab rails and shower seats and many more fabulous products for daily living that are both beautiful and functional.
The company was created by John Pyne and his wife Katherine, who has been a wheelchair user since a horse riding accident fifteen years ago. After fruitlessly searching for well designed assistive products for her own use, Katherine realised she wouldn't be alone in her frustration and so they set about putting the range together.
'There's an unwritten rule that assistive products are designed purely for function with no consideration for looks, style or any kind of pleasure in ownership,' she says. 'If you buy a smartphone or a racing bike, you not only get the function, you get the looks and the pleasure of owning something that has been designed to please on more than one level. Manufacturers of assistive aids are realising they need to offer more than function, and we are making those products available through our online shop.'
'We want to create a shopping experience that offers choice for those needing a little extra help in life,' says John. 'designed2enable is about enabling people to live a full and active life. Our environment has a huge impact on our state of mind; if we surround ourselves with beautiful things then we will thrive.'
