Tired of being ignored by publishers?
Tired of being ignored by publishers, many of whom who didn't seem to know what they were doing, Sara Goodwins and George Hobbs decided to set up Loaghtan Books to see whether they could do any better.
A freelance writer and editor for well over twenty years with over 1,000 articles and several books to her credit, Sara has always tried to provide her readers with something entertaining and hopefully instructive. She writes on a wide variety of subjects but insists on researching thoroughly whatever she writes about; anything less would be to cheat her readers. She particularly loves the quirky and unusual, which brings us neatly to ..
.. George. He has had to put up with Sara for most of her career as, in addition to being the photographer (and brains) of the team, he's also her husband. Poor man. Widely travelled his photographs have appeared in a number of publications on both sides of the Atlantic, and occasionally in the Far East. Australia has yet to be conquered! His images frequently, although not always, support and enhance his wife's work.
Together they hope that Loaghtan Books will provide its readers with quality books at an affordable price.
And, no, they're not providing you with pictures of themselves, as they think that what they look like is irrelevant to the quality of their work. Besides they aspire to an air of mystery. Probably erroneously.
They do hope you enjoy reading their books.
As a reader have you ever felt that the books you really want to own are just too expensive?
So did we!
To rectify that we at Loaghtan Books keep our prices as low as possible and the quality of our books as high as we can.
We are a small but growing independent publishing house, founded to produce the sort of books we want to read but can't find elsewhere. At the moment we publish only factual books, but in the future, who knows…?
We don't restrict ourselves to specialising in certain subjects, preferring to base our books on what readers tell us interest them. Whatever the subject each publication is researched thoroughly and imaginatively illustrated. Our books aim equally at education, illumination and entertainment or, to put it another way, learning and fun.
Some of our books are based on unique historic material; manuscripts and photographs not previously published to which we have added commentary so that our readers can understand allusions in the text not obvious to modern eyes.
Other books are completely new, researched and written in house or by authors whose standards are as high as our own.
In this digital age, information can be can be seen by thousands merely at the click of the mouse.
But how accurate is it? And who checks that it's true? At Loaghtan Books we check. We verify everything we publish. And accuracy needn't be stuffy and boring. Look at our book pages to find out.
Our quarterly newsletter will tell you what's coming up and give you a peek behind the scenes about our books and how we work.
It's free, there's absolutely no obligation and we promise that we'll only send you the newsletter and not inundate you with unwanted advertising (we find spam irritating as well). If you'd like to be added to the mailing list, please visit our website.
