The story of Wild Things
Heavy Load's Wild Things project - showcasing the work of musicians with learning disabilities from all over the world.
The story of Wild Things
Heavy Load are a punk band made up of musicians with and without learning disabilities from the south coast of England. They've been going for over 13 years but in 2008 an award winning, and critically acclaimed, documentary feature film about them was released which catapulted them to a whole new audience.
At the same time they'd been touring the UK promoting their Stay Up Late campaign - a campaign promoting the rights of disabled music fans to be able to Stay Up Late and enjoy live music and challenging inflexible staffing hours which were making this difficult.
As they toured they met loads of other bands and musicians with learning disabilities and decided to release Wild Things Vol. 1 to showcase some of this talent. The result was a ground breaking album drawing, some brilliantly unique music and a diverse range of styles.
Then Heavy Load got to hear about acts from all over the world also featuring musicians with learning disabilities so, with some generous funding from Trust Greenbelt, they decided to release Vol 2. The response the request for submissions was so great though that it had to be released as a double.
This is a truly unique album with artists from Argentina, England, Scotland, Australia, Germany, Finland, Denmark, USA and Switzerland covering styles from punk, electronica, pop, rock, urban, folk and spaced out experimental instrumentals.
In a world where the music mainstream has become a bland mass produced soup of conformity we are proud to present 'Wild Things Vol 2 - The Sound Of The Disabled Underground' - a place where music can still be strange and exciting.
Volumes 1 and 2 of Wild Things can be purchased at www.wild-things-music.com
All proceeds will go towards the Stay Up Late campaign
